Step inside an absurd carnival this summer as Shakespeare’s vicious comedy The Taming of the Shrew arrives in the Globe Theatre.

Lucentio is determined to win the beautiful Bianca’s hand in marriage. When her father declares that it will only happen once her older sister Katherina is wedded, the competition to mould the fiercely independent Katherina into obedient wifey material begins.

The front runner is larger-than-life Petruchio. But with Katherina as proud as she is, it’s going to take shocking levels of manipulation to win her as his bride…

Following 2022’s ‘brilliantly provocative’ ★★★★ (The Guardian) Titus Andronicus, Director Jude Christian debuts in the Globe Theatre with Shakespeare’s challenging early comedy that asks us where we draw the line between entertainment and complicity, reality and the absurd?

'For I am born to tame you, Kate,

And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate

Comfortable as other household Kates.’

– Act II, scene 1
