Coming Clean - - West End History , Info & More

Turbine Theatre
Arches Lane, Circus West Village London SW11 8AB London

It’s 1982 , Greg and Tony live in Kentish Town. They’ve been together 5 years and seem to have the perfect relationship and have love all figured out. They're in a committed relationship, but with room for a little sex-on the-side whenever it takes their fancy. Their only rule? Never sleep with the same man twice. When drop-dead gorgeous cleaner Robert walks into their lives, the fragile foundations of their sexual contract are thrown into jeopardy. Funny, fresh and packed with razor sharp wit, Kevin Elyot's landmark drama questions the nature of fidelity and the limits of love.

Written 12 years before his most famous play, My Night With Reg, Coming Clean won Elyot the Samuel Beckett Award for writers showing particular promise in the field of the performing arts.

BWW Blog: Jesse Swimm of Tuacahn's MARY POPPINS - It's the Final Countdown
by Guest Blogger: Jesse Swimm - Oct 24, 2013

Well gang we have reached the final week here at Tuacahn. It's kind of surreal to think that in five short days this whole experience will be coming to an end. Now you would think that I have done about everything I could possibly do in this lovely town, after all we have been here for, oh, 7 months. Well that is not the case, you see the Grand Canyon is about 3 hours away so a few of us decided why not take a quick road trip there and back. So my friends Nicole, Michael, Clay, and I hopped in the company van and made our way out to the North Rim for some of the most spectacular sights we have encountered on our stay here. I knew it would be about a three-hour trip so again I had to set my alarm for the lovely hour of 6:45 am so that I could take care of my dog, Sara, before I made the trek to Arizona. As I rode my moped over to the apartments in 45-degree weather all I could think of was sleep and a heater but I finally made it there where my friends suggested we make a quick trip to Starbucks before we set off on adventure. Sounds good to me!!!

The Third Law of Motion Explores the Shadows of 1960s Domesticity
by Robert Diamond - Jun 29, 2013

The Third Law of Motion: Meg Files's newest novel is set in Michigan in the early 1960s, when domestic violence remained hidden in silent basements and the worst thing a girl could do was to get herself 'in trouble.' It tells the stories of Dulcie White, a bright, confused college girl distracted by sexual discovery and the power of her boyfriend's neediness, and track star Lonnie Saxbe, caught up in his own confusions and compulsions. The Third Law of Motion offers an intimate look at the subtle complexities of the dynamic between a battered wife and a violent husband, where nothing is so simple as a fist punched through a wall. '... the delicious writing, the pitch-perfect and absolutely fresh evocation of these lives of the 1960s immediately dazzled me; and then, the suspense that Files had been oh-so-deftly building into the story would not let me stop reading?or resume breathing?until the last page.' - Elizabeth Evans, Suicide's Girlfriend 'Meg Files unfolds her story gently with clean, lyrical prose, balancing vivid scenes of raw sensuality with heartrending moments that foreshadow disaster. The Third Law of Motion is about love, madness, coming-of-age, and redemption, and it is also a tragedy and a page-turning thriller; in short it is a timeless classic. Meg Files is a deeply insightful and generous writer who allows even her most flawed characters grace and humanity. The Third Law of Motion is a wonderful book that absolutely deserves to be read.' - Laila Halaby, Once in a Promised Land 'I read this novel in one sitting without stopping for sleep or food. The characters climb inside your skin so you feel acutely their desires, their obsessions, and the family secrets that bloom between them. Most of all, you find yourself in love and irreparably tied to them, so that as the novel reaches its final, exhilarating climax it is your own soul on the line, waiting either to be extinguished, or to find redemption.' -Suzanne Kingsbury, The Gospel According to Gracey Meg Files is the author of Meridian 144, a novel; Home Is the Hunter and Other Stories; Write from Life, a book about using personal experience and taking risks in writing; The Love Hunter and Other Poems; and Galapagos Triptych. She edited Lasting: Poems on Aging. She directs the Pima Writers' Workshop and teaches creative writing at Pima College in Tucson. E-mail: orders@ingrambook.com

CABARET LIFE NYC: Sunday at the Cabaret with Corinna, Eva and Lianne -- Two Out of Three Ain't Bad
by Stephen Hanks - Apr 25, 2013

When you're a cabaret reviewer on the evening show prowl between Monday night and Saturday evening (although not every night, thank goodness), you'd like to think that the God of Cabaret would make Sunday a day of rest. No such luck, since the weekend allows clubs to book shows as early as brunch time. I learned this again early this month when I felt compelled to attend three shows starring charming female singers-Corinna Sowers-Adler at Stage 72 (the Triad), Eva Kantor at the Laurie Beechman, and Lianne Marie Dobbs at the Metropolitan Room. I didn't break my personal Sunday record of four shows in one day set in late January (yes, I should be committed), but there was a two-hour break in this mix so it still turned out to be an 8-hour cabaret extravaganza. (Thank you, oh God of Cabaret, for press comps!) While it would have been sweet for the musical marathon to have been a clean sweep of excellent shows, as Meat Loaf might croon, 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad.'

BWW Blog: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Multitasking Work, Art and Life
by Guest Blogger: Kathryn Mowat Murphy - Apr 15, 2013

It's coming to the end of winter, and our nerves are frayed. We look out the window, turn on the TV, or listen to the radio in the hope that the sun will be shining. We long for our flip-flops and wish we didn't have to carry 20lbs of dance gear, warm-ups, and audition garb in our bags. Why do we carry all this stuff? Because we take it with us to our survival jobs and don't have time to drop it off at home. We'd rather go to our dance class, singing lesson or expensive acting course that we've signed up for on the advice of our agent. We stop, take a breath, and wonder: is this worth it?
